BRAUNFELS GROUP OPENS WURSTFEST

Eleven distinguished members of the sister city of New Braunfels in Germany, Braunfels, will be present at the opening ceremonies of Wurstfest at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. NEW BRAUNFELS, TXEleven distinguished members of New Braunfels sister city in Germany, Braunfels, will be present at the opening ceremony of Wurstfest and for the “biting of the sausage” at 5 p.m. Oct. 31.

“They will be staying here for about a week in our area,” says Herb Skoog, director of Wurst Relations.

Those special guests include Braunfels Mayor Wolfgang Keller and his wife Zita and Secretary of the Partnership (sister city) program with New Braunfels Gerhard Adams and his wife Regina.

Also coming will be Seigmund Clura and wife Christina. Christina was elected to be “Brunfelsia” – representing the more than 50 clubs and societies in Braunfels.

“With the title of Brunfelsia, which is similar in many ways to our Grosse Opa, Christine is a goodwill ambassador for Braunfels,” says Skoog.

Also joining the group are Reiner Glassner, representing the volunteer fire department of Braunfels, and his wife Christina; Heinfried Obitz, manager of the parks and forests and elected representative of the city employees, and lady friend Gabriele Velten; and Erhard Richter, representing the Braunfels city utilities.

The Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote the local economy through tourism and promote and preserve the community’s rich German heritage. Proceeds from the event benefit a wide variety of projects.

Admission to the Wurstfest grounds will be free from 4 to 7 p.m. on opening night, Oct. 31. After that, admission to the festival is $8 at the gate; and children ages 12 and younger will be admitted free at all times.
