Wurstfest Wrap Up FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wurstfest 2008 fell short of reaching the phenomenal numbers recorded in 2007, but only by a mere 1.5%! Paid admission were down approximately 2,000 people over the course of three days – opening Friday which was also Halloween, the first Saturday when the University of Texas was toppled from their number one standing by Texas Tech and Monday, the eve of election day. The remaining seven nights enjoyed significant increases in both attendance and sales. Some wondered whether the festival would be impacted by the national economic crisis and fear of uncertainty. Others declared the festival provided an opportunity to take a break from day to day concerns and instead experience pure enjoyment. Thirty-five local, non-profit organizations join with the Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels to produce the ten day celebration. Seventy-six percent of the total dollars spent on the festival grounds during the ten days is earned by these non-profits who reinvest their earnings in community projects. The Wurstfest Association alone has contributed more than $2 million to community betterment during its 48 year history. The Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote the local economy through tourism and promote and preserve the community’s rich German heritage. Proceeds from the event benefit a wide variety of projects. Dates for the 2009 event are October 30 through November 8.
